Log an expense by typing or saying one sentence.
An AI expense tracker turns a purchase you describe in your own words into a saved entry. In Outlayr, AI reads the sentence you say and the receipt you photograph, then fills in the amount, merchant, category, account, date, and currency. Typing fills the same sentence with taps, on your phone, with no signal needed.
| Field | When you say it | When you type it |
|---|---|---|
| Amount | The number you say, like “twelve fifty” | The number pad |
| Merchant | Where the money went or came from: “at Starbucks”, “from Upwork”. With none, a short description of the purchase | You type the name. A merchant you logged before, or a well-known one, brings its category |
| Category | Words like “for coffee” or “under groceries”, matched to your categories. It never makes up a new one | You pick it from your categories |
| Account | One of your account names, like “on the Amex”. A name that matches none of yours is left for you to pick | You pick it from your accounts |
| Date | “yesterday”, “last Friday”, “this morning”. Nothing said means today | Today, yesterday, a day of the past week, or the calendar |
| Currency | Only a currency you name, like “euros”, “MXN”, or “€”. Otherwise your main currency | Tap the code next to the amount |
| Expense or income | “got paid” or “a refund” logs income, and “moved 500 from Checking to Savings” logs a transfer. Anything else is an expense | Tap Spent to switch it to Received |
| Repeats | “every month”, “weekly”, “a subscription” | Tap repeat under the sentence |
Categories and accounts come from your own lists. A spoken date can go back up to a year.

How it works
Open the form
Tap the + button, then Add a transaction to type it, or Speak an entry to say it.
Fill in the sentence
To type it, tap each underlined word of the sentence, like Spent $12.50 at Blue Bottle for Coffee from Apple Card today. To say it, describe the purchase the way you would tell a friend.
Check and save
Check each word, say a correction or tap the one that is off, then save. Your budgets update right away.
Four examples
These examples assume a ledger in US dollars with accounts named Amex, Visa, Chase, and Zinli, and categories named Coffee, Dining Out, Freelance, and Entertainment. Outlayr matches against the names you have.
“Twelve fifty at Starbucks yesterday on the Amex” becomes $12.50 at Starbucks, under Coffee, on the Amex, dated yesterday. Saying “No, that was today, and put it under groceries” then changes only the date and the category.
“Twenty euros for lunch at Café de Flore on the Visa” becomes €20.00 at Café de Flore, under Dining Out, on the Visa, dated today, counted in dollars at the rate from that day.
“Got paid 1,450 from Upwork into Zinli last Friday” becomes $1,450.00 received from Upwork, under Freelance, into Zinli, dated last Friday.
“Netflix, 15.49 every month on the Chase card” becomes $15.49 at Netflix, under Entertainment, on Chase, dated today and repeating every month.
What happens offline
Typed entries save on your phone first, so a purchase logged on a plane is on the Log right away. A purchase in another currency converts at the newest rate already saved on your phone for that day or before, and you can type the rate you got instead.
Voice entry and receipt scanning need a connection. With none, they say you are offline and nothing is sent. With Pro, sync sends your entries to your other devices once you are back online.
What needs an account
Without an account you can type entries, set budgets and subscriptions, import a CSV matched by category name, and export your data. Signing in is needed for voice entry and receipt scanning, and, with Pro, for AI matching on import and for sync.
Before the first clip or receipt, Outlayr asks whether it may send data to its AI providers. A voice clip sends the recording, your account and category names, your currency, your language, and today's date, and no balances or past entries.
Questions
Is Outlayr an AI expense tracker?
For voice and receipts, yes. AI reads what you say or the receipt you photograph and fills in the entry for you to check. Typing is a sentence you fill in by tapping. Once you allow AI features, Outlayr can also suggest a category for a merchant it does not know, sending the merchant name but never the amount, the date, or the account.
Can I type a purchase in my own words?
No. The typed sentence is a form: you tap each word to fill it in. To log a purchase in your own words, say it, and voice entry fills in the same sentence from what it hears.
Which languages does it understand?
English, Spanish, Portuguese, and French. Voice entry listens in the language the app is set to.
How many voice entries are free?
20 captures every 30 days, shared with receipt scans, and each clip is one. Outlayr Pro raises that to 500. Typing has no limit.
What if it gets a field wrong?
Say what changed, like “no, that was yesterday” or “make it groceries”, and only that field updates. Or tap Finish in the form and edit it by hand.
